About us
Meet the family behind Icelandic Horseworld.
Our family has been breeding, training and riding horses for many years. The farm, Skeiðvellir, is owned by Sigurður Sæmundsson, often called Siggi Sæm, Lisbeth Sæmundsson and Siggi´s brother Viðar Sæmundsson. I, Katrín, am the daugther of Siggi and Lisbeth, and me and Davíð Jónsson have two children, Sigurður Smári and Guðlaug Birta. Running Icelandic Horseworld is my full time occupation and I love to meet the people in stable and be able to be around the horses all day.
After my parents have lived at their old farm, Holtsmúli, for 25 years they decided to build a new farm. The result of that is the farm Skeiðvellir, a farm built in 2007 which has among the best training facilities in Iceland. The farm is around 350 hectares (865 acres) and there are around 100 horses at the farm. Davíð and I have both been riding since we were children. I have also worked for many years in the tourism business and have a degree in Tourist Business from the University of Reykjavík. We have been managing the training and the events at the farm since the autumn 2011. In 2013 we started Icelandic Horseworld to share our love for the Icelandic horse with the many visitors to Iceland. Whether you have Icelandic horses at home and now want to experience riding them in their own surroundings, want to try an Icelandic horse for the first time or have never sat on a horse before, we have the horse and tour for you. After each ride we offer you a hot drink in our cozy stable café. If you don´t want to ride and do want to know more about the Icelandic horse we offer guided tours of our stable, which give you an introduction to the Icelandic horse, their history, gaits and the history of the farm. We look forward to welcoming you. |
