What to expect:
This retreat is for friends, couples, families, or anyone with an interest in riding and experiencing the Icelandic horse to the very depth. We have all types of horses for both less and more experienced riders, and we often include some of our own competition or training horses. The instructor is Katrín Sigurðardóttir who has been growing up with horses and been teaching and competing for many years. Lessons and the program can be offered in both English, German, Swedish and Icelandic.
The detailed itinerary looks as so:
Day 1: You will be picked up in the late afternoon at the BSI central bus station in Reykjavik and drive back to Skeiðvellir. The dinner will be either on the way or waiting for you at the farm, and after check-in you can enjoy a relaxing evening in our new and beautiful accommodation at Skeiðvellir.
Day 2: Breakfast is served at the farm and afterwards the first lesson takes place. Katrín will match you with a horse for your level and over the days you have the chance to try out multiple horses or focus your training with the same horse. The lessons take place in our big and light riding hall and group members are welcome to watch from the tribune. After a warm lunch and another lesson, we drive to the Secret Lagoon and enjoy dinner there and a hot relaxing bath. We drive back to the farm for the night.
Day 3: After breakfast it is time for another lesson with Katrín. Lunch is served at 12 and in the afternoon, you continue your progress with another lesson. Dinner is served at Skeiðvellir in the evening and there is a chance to relax and enjoy the view from your accommodation.
Day 4: After breakfast on this last day, you are invited for a 1hour ride in the Icelandic nature to enjoy the view of the countryside through the ears of a horse. After lunch we will start the way back to Reykjavik. On the way we will stop to see Urriðafoss, the most voluminous waterfall in Iceland. Arrival at the BSI around 17:00 o’clock.
